The School of Welding at Delta Technical College
Delta Technical College (DTC) offers two welding programs: (1) Welding (2) Welding & Pipefitting. Both programs feature hands-on instruction to learn arc welding techniques including SMAW, TIG, MIG, and FCAW. The Welding Program can be completed in less than a year and is ideal if you’re interested in pursuing entry-level welding career opportunities. If you’re interested in receiving additional training that will provide you with more advanced pipefitting skills to help expand your career opportunities, check out the Welding & Pipefitting Program.
The School of Welding at DTC is the first step toward pursuing an exciting career as a welder not only in Mississippi, but wherever the career may take you! Whether you find work as a traveling welder or a shipbuilder, the ever-changing work environment provides a dynamic range of professional possibilities.
Welding Classes at DTC
The Welding Program at Delta Technical College teaches you the following through a combination of classroom training and hands-on weld shop experience:
- Properties of Metal
- Cutting Techniques of Metal
- Production Welding Techniques
- Safety Training/Cranes/Rigging
- Metallurgy/Vocabulary
- Basic Math/Basic Fitting Principles
All of DTC’s welding instructors have real-world experience and are available to provide individual support and instruction. You will learn the following welding processes:
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
- Gas Tungsten Arc Gas Welding (GTAW/TIG)
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG)
- Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
If you’re also interested in pipe fitting, check out the Welding & Pipefitting Program. You will learn all the above welding techniques and receive an additional 10 weeks of pipefitting training.
You will also take DTC Welding Certification Tests to help employers recognize your welding skills and determine if they meet the requirements of the position. The certifications you earn at DTC’s School of Welding can potentially increase your employability in the welding industry.

Welding trade schools are the first step toward an exciting new career in this hands-on field. Here’s what you can expect when you choose The School of Welding at Delta Technical College (DTC) for your welding training:
QUICK FACTS: WELDING TRAINING PROGRAM
A welder heats metal pieces to melt, fuse, or permanently join together. The most common type of welding is arc welding, which uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals together, but there are more than 100 different processes. Welders can work in a variety of industries, from car racing to manufacturing. A welder’s daily routine varies, depending on the job requirements and industry.

According to BLS, the median annual wage for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers was $48,940, in May 2023. Pay varies for welders based on experience, skill level, industry, and the size of the employer. The highest 10 percent in the field earned more than $72,970 per year.

The largest employers of welders are manufacturing, specialty trade contractors, self-employed workers, and repair and maintenance, according to the BLS.
The BLS predicts about 45,800 job openings for welders every year from 2023-2033.
