Delta Technical College (DTC) is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. During this time, we strive to provide any assistance we can to our community. DTC has compiled the below list of community resources available to assist students and their loved ones.

This list of DTC Student Resources includes local and national information on food resources, home and utilities, transportation, educational resources, mental health and more.

Food Resources

  • Grab-and-Go Breakfast and Lunch: Children 18 years of age and under will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch at no cost. No ID is required. They do not have to be a JPS student. Adult meals are $2.50 for breakfast and $3.75 for lunch. Meals will be served from March 23-27 from 9am – 11am at the following locations:
    • North: Boyd Elementary, 4531 Broadmeadow Street; North Jackson Elementary, 650 James M. Davis Drive; Spann Elementary, 1615 Brecon Drive
    • Central: Blackburn Middle, 1311 W. Pearl Street; Galloway Elementary, 186 Idlewild Street; Lake Elementary, 472 Mt. Vernon Avenue; Raines Elementary, 156 N. Flag Chapel Road; Smith Elementary, 3900 Parkway Avenue
    • South: Marshall Elementary, 2909 Oak Forest Drive; Peeples Middle, 2940 Belvedere Drive; Whitten Middle, 210 Daniel Lake Boulevard; Wilkins Elementary, 1970 Castle Hill Drive
  • Free Grab and Go Lunch and Breakfast during school closure for Children under 18; from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. via curbside and walk-up service at the following locations:
    • East Flora Elementary, 4759 Highway 22 East, Flora, MS
    • Camden Elementary, 4784 MS-43, Camden, MS
    • Ann Smith Elementary, 306 South Pear Orchard, Ridgeland, MS
    • Madison Crossing Elementary, 300 Yandell Rd, Canton, MS 39046
  • Grab and Go Lunches free for all children 18 and under; they do not have to be an RCSD student to receive meals. No ID required.  Beginning March 17th, the RCSD will be serving meals from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. until further notice at the following locations:
    • McLaurin Elementary, 2603 Star Road, Florence, MS
    • Richland Upper Elementary, 175 Wilson Drive, Richland, MS
    • Pelahatchie Elementary, 213-B Brooks Street, Pelahatchie, MS 39145.
    • *We may be adding other locations soon.
  • Drive Up Grab and Go Lunches free to all children 18 and under and First Responders in uniform, beginning March 17th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., adult meals available for $3.50 (cash only) at the following location:
    • Pearl Lower Elementary, 160 Mary Ann Drive, Pearl, MS

Additional Food Resources

  • Campbell’s Donuts: Starting Tuesday March 17 – March 27, Campbells Donuts will begin passing out up to 60 hot breakfasts to children in need. Pick-ups are from 7:30 am to 8:00 am at the following address: 121 North Jefferson St., Jackson, MS 39201.
  • The Village Kitchen: Starting March 16th, The Village Kitchen will be providing lunch for students impacted by the school closings. Their goal is to feed 100 students or more each day at the following addresss: 219 W County Line Rd., Jackson, MS 39213.
  • Vowell’s: Vowell’s will be providing breakfast and lunch services for students impacted by the closings. Breakfast will be distributed 7:00 am – 8:00 am and Lunch will be distributed 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Guidelines: A child must be present to partake. There is a limit of one meal per child.   • Soul City Church: Starting March 16th – March 27th, Soul City Church will be serving lunches each day from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the following address: 226 Whitfield Street, Jackson, MS 39209.
  • JXN MS Mobile Meals Dispatch: Families in need are encouraged to call or text (615) 946-4197 to set up a meal drop-off location and time. Meals will cover breakfast and dinner for families throughout the extended break.  This mobile meal hotline is now being monitored 24 hours a day.
  • Mississippi Food Network: Foodbank for families in need located at 440 West Beatty Street, Jackson, MS 39205. Call 601-973-7080.
  • Burger King: Burger King is offering two free kids meals along with any other purchase via the Burger King app. The deal can be redeemed once per guest daily through April 6, 2020.

Utility Assistance

  • Comcast: On the heels of offering new, low-income Internet Essentials customers two months of free internet and raising the speed of that program’s service to 25/3 Mbps, Comcast has announced additional steps to help ensure people stay connected to the internet as more schools suspend classes and companies encourage employees to work from home due to the Coronavirus.   • Entergy: For the next 60 days, Entergy will halt customer disconnections if nonpayment is the result of the coronavirus. Customers can call 800-368-3749 or visit their website for more information.
  • The Mississippi Public Service Commission voted on temporarily suspending disconnections of certain utility services for 60 days in a special meeting Sunday. The restriction will apply to all water, sewer, electricity and gas services in the state after Gov. Tate Reeves’ Declaration of a State of Emergency on Saturday, March 14th regarding the spread of COVID-19.

Employment Opportunities

Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) announced that Mississippi workers who are not able to work due to COVID-19 will be eligible to file for unemployment benefits.  To file an Unemployment Claim, visit the MDES website at www.mdes.ms.gov or call the MDES Contact Center at 1-888-844-3577.  Online filing is encouraged! A claim may be filed on-line at www.mdes.ms.gov twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

  • Catholic Charities: Catholic Charities provide multiple programs and resources, resources for drug addiction; partners with an agency that provides mental health counseling services, Solomon Counseling Center.
  • Voice of Calvary Ministries: Voice of Calvary Ministries assist with rent and utilities, can subsidize income, assist with budgeting, and partners with organizations that provide counseling services; one being Hinds Behavioral Health Center.
